About SkyNET IT
I'm David Raper. SkyNET IT is just me, working out of Temple, Texas. By late 2023 I had been running infrastructure for the same client for about eight years with no entity behind it. Four of those years overlapped with disability and limited employer options to begin with. By 2024 it was easier to file the LLC than keep pretending it was a side thing. The work made it obvious.
Background
Twenty years in IT. Started as Level 1 support for CEFCO Convenience Stores in 2007. Moved through APOGEE Communications doing student-housing networks, S2G Support Services Group running call-center infrastructure (where I rewrote QoS to keep VoIP stable through bandwidth saturation), Trusource Labs (rebuilt the corporate AD environment and migrated all users), then internal IT at Periscope Holdings in Austin while running side-practice work. Strong on Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, networking, endpoint management, and VoIP. Workable on Linux and macOS without going as deep. The S2G call-center stack ran on Linux from VoIP to Zimbra.
Current focus is Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and session-based application delivery. Recent builds: a workstation migration from domain-joined Active Directory to Microsoft Entra-only, an Intune-managed fleet, and a QuickBooks Desktop RemoteApp delivery built first on AVD and re-shaped to on-prem RDS to keep the company file off cloud storage.
Sophos and Microsoft partner. Sophos certifications next on the queue.
How I work
I learn the environment first, fix what has been sitting, then manage it from there. No tier-one helpdesk hand-off. You talk to me; I do the work. Tickets come back with a real owner. Quarterly reviews are about priorities and decisions, not status updates.
Documentation rigor matters to me. If I touched something on your network, there is a record of what changed, why, and what to watch for. You own the documentation. If you decide to move providers later, it goes with you.
Who this is for
Central Texas small businesses that have outgrown an internal generalist or a break-fix vendor and don't need (or want to pay for) a national MSP's overhead. Currently serving across Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Temple, Killeen, and Waco.
What I do not do today: compliance-bound work (HIPAA, CMMC, PCI scope, SOC2).
Why I do it
I love what I do. The research stretch before a new build, the build itself, the moment it just runs. Novel problems hold my attention. Automation that means a problem stays solved is its own win. All of it lands the same way: "I did that" moments, and like most people, I live for those.
